BaoFeng is one of the most reputed names out there when it comes to two way radio transceivers. However, it’s also one of the few brands that offers some great devices in the budget price range without compromising on any of the important features.
The BaoFeng GT-3TP Mark-III is one of them. It’s an upgrade over its previous version and there’s really a lot to talk about the improvements it comes with so let’s get down to it.
BaoFeng Pofung GT-3TP Mark-III Features
The GT-3TP Mark-III comes with a lot of improvements over the UV-5R that make it a great buy especially at this price.
You get 1/4/8 watt output, LCD with three different programmable colors, backlit keyboard, upgraded chip, 3800mAh extended battery, large keys and many more features you wouldn’t expect at this price.
And this is all at a much lower price than other handheld two way radios, especially including the ones from brands like Icom.
While it’s not the most important factor, the sportier look of the GT-3TP Mark-III would certainly appeal to many. This is especially because even some of the most advanced devices come with a rather dull and boring look, making the GT-3TP Mark-III immediately stand out with its cool, sportier look.
But there’s more to its looks. The large keys, bright backlit keyboard, multiple LCD color options and other features also make it very functional.
Other than what we have already covered, the GT-3TP Mark-III also offers many other great features like:
- Works great with the latest CHIRP version as well as different UV-5R programming cables
- The openings on the device are covered so as to be water resistant to some extent; heavy mist, fog or extreme weather wouldn’t be a problem too
- Comes with a siren, FM radio and flashlight
- The INF-641 antenna works pretty well and the RX/TX is great
Great Audio Quality and Battery
The impressive watt output and a great overall build quality mean you get a great audio quality too. The audio clarity is great when both receiving and transmitting, which is again pretty impressive at this price point.
Unlike many other devices in this price range, the GT-3TP Mark-III really does produce 8W output. It may not always be consistent, but you can upgrade the antenna to an INF-661 if higher output is really important to you.
Finally, the extra battery power comes in very handy for many customers too. You would really thank the manufacturer for it while in the backcountry.
Let us quickly go over the main features of the GT-3TP Mark-III again.
It’s capable of producing 8W output, the 1/4/8 watt output is great, the audio quality and clarity when both receiving and transmitting is excellent, and it’s one of the most functional two way radios you will come across in this price range.
In addition to that, it comes with great compatibility and a solid build quality, and you wouldn’t have a problem using it in extreme weathers too.
There are also few two way radios in this price range that offer the kind of battery power that the GT-3TP Mark-III does.
While you wouldn’t want to complain about anything considering what you get for the price with the GT-3TP Mark-III, there are a few things that aren’t as good as the others.
The included manual is certainly one of them as it’s pretty much useless. You would instead want to download a manual for your device from the internet.
The charging cradle isn’t as high quality as the device itself, although the manufacturer has promised to help solve the problem and offer a free replacement in case the device gets damaged due to the charger.
Overall a Great Buy
All said and done at this price point you would be hard-pressed to find anything better than the GT-3TP Mark-III, even with the poor manual and relatively low quality charging cradle.
Ranging from the watt output to the audio quality and the battery power, the GT-3TP Mark-III exceeds the expectations on all the fronts.
