The Siglent SDM3045X is one of the most complete digital multimeters you will find on the market. It comes with pretty much every feature you may need as a hobbyist.
Some of the main features include 4½ digit (60,000 count) readings resolution, 5 readings/sec on slow mode and 150/sec in fast mode, both bar and numeric display, math functions, adjustable diode voltage, great low voltage AC RMS measurements, impressive 150 rdgs/s speed, 1 Gb NAND flash size and list goes on.
Siglent SDM3045X Features
Let us focus more on some of the important areas below.
As we mentioned above, the Siglent SDM3045X is a complete multimeter that does everything you can expect a multimeter to do.
It has both bar and numeric display, the math functions are great and work well, the reading speed is impressive at 5 readings/sec in slow mode and 150 readings/sec in fast mode.
The SDM3045X offers a lot of versatility in the form of its adjustable diode voltage. It has no problem measuring up to 10pF caps even with test leads that would be considered very short with most other devices.
The resistance measurement is pretty impressive with a resolution of 0.01 ohms. The same goes for the AC over frequency, which is 3% + 40 counts when in the range of 50-100Khz.
The SDM3045X, however, is one of the most accurate multimeters you will find. It’s fit to be used for a wide range of applications such as for production tests and development laboratories.
In fact, the SDM3045X manages to measure low voltage AC RMS with great accuracy, and you wouldn’t have any issues even if you go as down as 5mV.
There are absolutely no interference problems as well.
Impressively Functional and Easy to Use
Despite the great accuracy and almost professional-like functionality, the SDM3045X is pretty easy to operate. Hobbyists would have no problem getting used to it.
It might seem to be on the expensive side for a hobbyist, but if you’re seriously taking it up as a hobby you will probably thank yourself for choosing the SDM3045X. This is because it will save you a lot of headache, as many cheap multimeters can struggle with even basic tasks like simple continuity testing.
The SDM3045X, however, manages to handle very demanding tasks, and at a great speed. The interface is very well-designed and would appeal to newbie hobbyists.
It boasts a great build quality as well and we would be surprised if it doesn’t last you a few good years at least, likely much longer.
Well, you’re getting a lot at this price which is great, but there’s a bit of a trade-off as well. The SDM3045X may not perform as well as you may expect it to when it comes to some of the more advanced measurements involving basic DC voltage, although for hobbyists this shouldn’t be much of a problem.
The probes, however, aren’t very good and even some hobbyists aren’t going to like them. But if you can live with that, the SDM3045X can be a great option overall.
Let us have a quick summary of the pros and cons now.
- A very complete multimeter and a great option for hobbyists
- Both bar and numeric display
- No issues with accuracy for most applications
- Many math functions
- Fast reading speed
- Adjustable diode voltage
- Impressive resistance measurement
- Easy to use with well-designed interface
- Great build quality
- The probes leave a lot to be desired
- Does not perform as good when doing more advanced measurements for DC voltage
Siglent SDM3045X Review Conclusion
To be completely honest, we wouldn’t recommend the Siglent SDM3045X for professionals, but for hobbyists it can definitely be a perfect option. And on that note, professionals have a much higher budget for very advanced measurement tools so it’s not fair to judge the SDM3045X on that basis.
If you can live with the probes not being very good, you will absolutely love the SDM3045X, just like the many customers that bought it.
