The Siglent SDS1202X-E is one of the most popular digital oscilloscopes on the market, and that’s for a reason. In fact, it has also been awarded the “Amazon’s Choice” title, and that’s for a reason too.

And the reason is that it’s probably the most feature-complete scope in this price range. The 200 MHz bandwidth is great to have at this price and allows you to troubleshoot complex devices, and the 1gsa/use sampling rate makes for an almost real-time experience.

Other things like the triggering and decode features, 14 Mpts record length, great button layout, math and other functions and so on all make for a great level of versatility.

Impressively High Frequency Support

It’s quite rare to find a scope that offers 200 MHz bandwidth at this price point, and this is one of the most important reasons the SDS1202X-E manages to find a place on our list of the best digital oscilloscope.

The Siglent SDS1104X-E is priced significantly higher yet it only offers 100 MHz in terms of the bandwidth, although you do get 4 channels with it.

However, the high frequency support means that you will be able to use it to troubleshoot a much wider range of devices, especially including the more complex ones which may not be possible to troubleshoot accurately using a scope with a much lower bandwidth.

Users that need to have more channels, however, must consider one of the other scopes like the Rigol DS1054Z, which come with 4 channels.

The high frequency support of the SDS1202X-E would ensure you have no issues troubleshooting devices like an advanced CB radio, high-end video card and so on.

Siglent Technologies Sds1202x E Digital Oscilloscope ReviewComplete Set of Features

A common problem when going for a scope in the “affordable” price range is that it often lacks a few key features. While the SDS1202X-E isn’t exactly priced low, but rather on the higher side for a hobbyist, but it offers the most complete set of features you may ever need.

There are probably no other scopes in this price range that offer all the features that the SDS1202X-E does.

The dials are very neatly placed and easy to use, there are math and other useful functions, you have the option of saving to USB, the display is very large and detailed (and hence also easy to read), and calibrating the probes is a breeze.

Great Overall Performance

If you’re doubting the SDS1202X-E’s accuracy or overall performance due to the high bandwidth and relatively lower price, then think again. The voltage and time measurements are spot on, and customers have even been using it for testing things like a generator.

Other features like the serial decoding, FFT and being able to use the full bandwidth are all available for free, though they might cost a hefty amount with some of the other brands.

It’s also one of the most beginner-friendly scopes that’s also adequately functional, and newbies would have no problem using it for calculations and to make adjustments.

  • Probably the only scope that offers 200 MHz bandwidth at this price
  • Impressive sampling rate
  • Great accuracy and capable of testing even the more complex devices
  • Comes with impressive features like FFT, serial decoding, saving to USB and more (without any extra cost to you)
  • Surprisingly easy to use with a great dial and button layout, making it a great option for newbies
  • Math functions work well despite being easy to use
  • 14 Mpts record length
  • Weighs much less than many other comparable scopes

  • Only 2 channels, but should be enough for hobbyists
  • Setting the trigger position where you want to without messing around with the other settings can be a little hard to figure out
  • An HDMI port could have been a great addition as it would allow users to have a much larger display in the form of their computer’s screen

SDS1202X-E Review Conclusion

The lack of 4 channels may make the SDS1202X-E a bit less appealing to professionals or serious hobbyists with advanced needs, but for most hobbyists it’s a great option, especially including the newbies.

It boasts a great overall performance and the ability to troubleshoot an impressively large variety of devices, including the more complex ones. However, it does so without making things difficult for a newbie, and you would be able to get great measurements using it right off the bat.

All said and done, if only 2 channels is not a deal-breaker for you, then you should definitely go ahead and click on the button below to order the Siglent SDS1202X-E on Amazon.
