The TYT TH-UV8000D isn’t a very popular TYT radio, but it’s definitely as good as some of its popular options. It offers a lot for a surprisingly affordable price.

TYT TH-UV8000D Features

Let’s learn more about its features below and find out if it’s what you’re looking for.

Excellent Performance

The TYT TH-UV8000D works just as good as some of the other more popular TYT handheld Ham radios, while actually being priced quite reasonably for its performance.

Both the RX and TX quality is solid, with the TH-UV8000D easily being able to filter out stray signals and connect very clearly with the stations you want to listen to. It also does a great job at picking up weaker signals, something that many other Ham radios int his price range often struggle with.

Similarly, it does surprisingly well at picking up faraway distant signals and stations, which definitely adds a lot to its performance as a handheld unit.

Impressive Transmitting Ability

While we did touch upon the TX quality above, it’s worth discussing in a bit more detail too. Users report that the people they transmit to say that the audio comes clear and loud.

Similarly, the signal when transmitting is impressively strong too, even over fairly longer distances. The 10 watts power output certainly comes into play here, and makes it one of the more powerful handheld two way radios out there.

Crossband Repeat Functionality

It’s amazing that a two way radio in this price range offers crossband repeat functionality. After all, it’s one of those features you usually only find in high-end options.

Moreover, it also seems to work pretty well, so there are no limitations due to the modest price tag. Similarly, it’s also surprisingly easy to operate, which does add to the reputation of the TYT TH-UV8000D as one of the better handheld Ham radios for beginners.

However, one important thing to note here is that you must use the software to activate the crossband repeat feature. But it’s not difficult to set up the software either, so you should be good with that.

The TYT TH-UV8000D manages to surprise in pretty much every department, especially for its price. It’s a dual band handheld transceiver boasting an impressive power output of 10 watts.

The combination of power and functionality it brings to the table is praiseworthy. Both the RX and TX work extremely well, which is not something easy to find in this price range.

The crossband repeat functionality is another feature you wouldn’t expect at this price point but get with the TH-UV8000D.

The TH-UV8000D also offers dual display, and the battery life is fairly long too. The TYT software isn’t included but can be downloaded for free from the company’s official website here.

The software is easy to install and get working, and helps you activate the crossband repeat functionality easily as well.

As far as the memory is concerned, the TH-UV8000D offers 128 memory channels. There’s also a belt clip, which isn’t exactly the best it could be but it certainly comes in handy at times too.

Overall, the TH-UV8000D is one of the most capable Ham radios for beginners, especially because it also offers the impressive crossband repeat functionality without making life difficult for beginners and also at a great price.

Furthermore, if you hook it up with a quality Ham radio antenna, it would probably give a run to some of the much more powerful mobile Ham radios out there.

There’s one issue with the use of the TH-UV8000D but it’s but directly related to the radio itself. The battery eliminator for the TH-UV8000D – the one that’s actually advertised for the radio – isn’t designed properly and has functionality issues. In some cases, it doesn’t work at all.

So make sure you do your own research when purchasing a battery eliminator, as the one they may show as suitable for the TH-UV8000D may not really be the one that would work with it.

TYT TH-UV8000D Conclusion

The TYT TH-UV8000D is certainly one of the best handheld Ham radios in this price range. It comes with pretty much everything you can ask for at this price point, and even features like the crossband repeat functionality that you wouldn’t really expect at this price.

Ranging from the power output to the audio to the battery life, everything is probably the best it could be for the price. The TH-UV8000D indeed offers an excellent value for money.
