Astronomical Dusk

This is the stage when night officially begins. The sun is approximately eighteen degrees under the horizon, and the last sunray has left the sky. Even before the stage of Astronomical Dusk, during Astronomical Twilight, the sky generally looks dark. However, there is still a bit of sunlight scattered around the sky. Dusk at the Poles?

Around the poles, the day and night cycle lasts a full year. In the summer period, the North and South poles experience the Midnight Sun or Polar Day. The sun is present in the sky for several months

during this stage.

The poles experience Polar Night in the winter period when the sun is nowhere to be seen for months. The transitions between Polar Night and Day are marked by lengthy periods of twilight. Once the sun falls below the horizon, it starts sinking every day, culminating in a fortnight of Civil Twilight.

The Civil Twilight is followed by the Nautical and Astronomical Twilight stages that last about 13 to 14 days. In the spring, the opposite takes place; as Polar Night arrives, the sun stays in the atmosphere for several weeks before it rises to the horizon.

Is Dusk Shorter near the Equator?
